Playing your music collection on the infotainment system?

This will be my first vehicle that doesn't have a tape or cd player in it (I have a SX ordered). I have certain songs my children like to listen to when I take them to school in the morning (on 5 CDs now) I have most of them as MP3s too (they are not on google play, itunes or similar). I know I can put them on my phone, but it's a company phone and don't want to fill it up. I also know I can put them on a flash drive and stick it in the Telly's USB slot, but then how can I use my Waze app at the same time since it also needs to be connected through the USB. Can I use/are there 2 USB ports that can be read by the infotainment system? I really don't want to get a mp3 player that connects through Bluetooth just to listen to my collection of music Does anyone have any thought or ideas?
Thanks

I use plex over android auto for my personal music. This won't work when you are in areas of low cell reception, however, unless you want to sync the songs/playlists to the phone which you've already mentioned you do not want to do.

When I connect my iphone and use car play, my only music option is what's on the phone.

@Kamikaze Torpedoes the Telluride has a built in harddrive for songs. When you stick the usb stick with music into the usb you can download the songs to the harddrive. After that you can hit the talk button and say “play song title or play artist”. The songs will pop up on command

Can you play from the hard drive when you are using car play?

Unfortunately Car play overrides everything.. might as well use Pandora, sound hound, I heart radio or Spotify through the car play

I have yet to figure out how to have the Telluride import the contents of a usb thumb drive to the car’s internal storage. Do you have the steps? I too would like to have CarPlay and local MP3 from the car. Thanks

I have few questions about this:
1) Has someone found any reference to this in manual?
2) Does USB drive auto copy to hard drive or you need to do it on screen (some copy button or something)?
3) Can a playlist be made and played on UVO? how do you navigate to playlist?
4) How do you browse those copied songs on screen? What menu ->?

But that doesn’t seem to work in the Telluride’s UVO system implementation. Seems like a miss seeing as there are SOOOOO many USB ports. Only one of them is for data.

Great questions, I didn't know there was a hard drive on there. I'm still waiting for my Telluride to arrive, but this would be good to know

Having the ability to import songs would be great, I'm currently using a low profile USB drive.

The wife's Sorento with the infinity system has the hard drive on it and it holds a pretty good amount. I don't think these HK systems have that. I'll look in my Stinger, but if I remember correctly, these don't. It was really nice because I put my thumb drive music on the hard drive so I could still use the USB port for Android Auto also.

It doesn't appear that the Telluride has a hardrive. I looked in all the settings and I can't find a way to copy songs from a usb.
