This is why you need to check your oil every week or other week. It is just good practice. Same as checking your tire psi. how long do you go in between oil changes and what oil are you using?

It is above the thread. If you look the last thread had a tiny hole the o ring goes right above that one. Also coat the o ring with oil.

I have been using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum $79 for 15 quarts from Amazon. Has long as you keep your receipts you will be fine for warranty. I change mine every 5k miles.

Have you found a place to buy Total oil outside of the dealership and not over priced?
