2020 Kia telluride oil consumption

I too have a 2020 telluride and a few days ago we noticed a prominent clicking in the engine when idling and got worse when accelerating We had no warning lights indicating low oil or low oil pressure or check engine but when I checked the oil it didn’t register on the dip stick in fact it needed 5 l of oil just to bring it to proper levels

I admit we were overdue for an oil change by 5 months and 8000 km

There are no obvious driveway stains to indicate a leak

I took it to the dealer and immediately they said we need a new motor

Which is tough because it’s out of warranty 123000 km and we still owe one the loan

Is there any way to fight this ?

Sorry, but what is there to fight. You were over an oil change by half a year and 8000km and ran the motor out of oil. Kia (and every other manufacturer) will state that it's normal for a motor to burn/use oil up to 1 quart / 1000 miles (1600kms). Take your 8000kms that you state you were over divided by the "normal" consumption of quart / 1600kms and you get exactly 5 quarts that your motor was low, basically out of oil. The *only* way to know if your motor has the proper amount of oil in it is to pull the dipstick once in awhile. If you never check your oil level, as recommended in your manual, then you failed to maintain your car even to a minimal level and sorry but your motor replacement is 100% your responsibility.

I know it's not what you want to hear but from what you've shared that's the most likely outcome.
