Power Tailgate Entry and Exit Buttons on Inside of Vehicle Rear

Hey there!

So just as the title is listed, I am going to add some entry and exit buttons on the inside of the vehicle in the rear for camping (i.e. sleeping in the vehicle) purposes in lieu of using the keyfob. I thought about this for quite some time but always used the keyfob and decided it would be more elegant to have a red colored exit button and a white colored close the tailgate button. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BK4HDQHX?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C36TVWJ6?ref_=ppx_hzod_title_dt_b_fed_asin_title_0_0)

Since I am going to be doing the 3rd brake light flasher module soon, and going to need to pop panels anyway, I decided 'why not'.

I'll post my progress and install on this over the next few days. Should be relatively simple to tap the hatch release and hatch close button with two separate SPST push buttons with some wiring and I'll mount them somewhere so they don't get bumped but is also deliberate in the need.

straight from the garage… button in car when camping to open and close tailgate project 90% complete as I just need to get the button ha ha and install it as all other work is complete! and yes I solder everything!

Fully Tested!

One SPST button is all that is needed to tap the pink and second black wire. Press momentarily to open and again to close. See pictures attached!

I’ve been on a button frenzy and figured out what I’m actually going to do, but will surprise the folks here once installed. Long story short I’m going to fill two holes that I pre-drilled before I knew I only needed one so I’m going to use the other one for an LED that one press the button the LED should light up as well or at least that’s the theory.
