Is AWD always on with every setting? What does the "Lock" do?

I've been unclear on whether or not the Telluride is always in All Wheel Drive mode, despite the setting (comfort, sport, snow, etc). Is this correct?

And what exactly is the function of the Lock setting?

Yes, it will always be in "AUTO" AWD mode, which essentially allows the vehicle to determine how much torque to deliver to the front and rear axles, based on road conditions. When locked, it gives equal power to both the front and rear axles, regardless of which one has traction. The LOCK setting will turn itself off when speeds exceed 25mph, and will turn back on only when speeds have dropped back down below 20mph. It can help you get out of some precarious situations (that you'll likely never find yourself in, but never-the-less).
